Flying Tips to Avoid RC Helicopter Crashes

Reduce the likelihood of sad faces with these flying tips to avoid RC helicopter crashes. It may seem like RC Helicopters are child's toys, but they are not. Flying a remote control helicopter requires a lot of practice and skill. Starting out, it is not the easiest hobby to have, but after a little bit of time it becomes simpler. If you do not take time to learn how to fly an RC helicopter, then the hobby becomes very expensive due to the numerous copter crashes.

The common causes of crashes

Most helicopter crashes are boom strikes. This occurs when the helicopter has a hard landing and the main rotor hits the tail boom. To avoid this, spend some time playing a flight simulator game to practice landing.

Flying with wind and outfitting the helicopter

It is advised that you select a place to fly your helicopter that has either no wind or very little wind. The wind affects the helicopter's ability to go up and down and causes it to spin, making maneuvering difficult. Outfitting your helicopter with training gear keeps it from tipping over and breaking. It also stabilizes the copter.

Perform a preflight check

If your RC helicopter is not functioning properly before it is airborne, it is more than likely going to crash during flight. Check the copter to guarantee that all parts are functioning. One of the checks to perform is a radio check to make sure it moves correctly. Do this slowly to prevent the copter from lifting off.

Basic flight tips

Always reduce the throttle smoothly. Jerking the throttle causes the helicopter to crash. Also, check your batteries. Weak batteries cause it to function improperly. Allow the motor to cool down between flights.

Flying a radio controlled helicopter is a fun and exciting hobby; however, if you do not know what you are doing, the possibility of destroying your helicopter shortly after take off is more likely.
