Fundamentals of RC Car Racing

When new to the sport, it is helpful to know the fundamentals of RC car racing. The principles are generally the same as "real" car racing, but these tips are useful for on-road and off-road racing with any type of RC race car.

Declare your intentions

RC cars intended for racing usually have adjustable suspensions. Factory suspension setups are best for those who are new to the sport, as the RC car manufacturers have determined the best all-around suspension system that operates optimally for most racing conditions. Try out various suspension setups to speed up your lap times and to make the car handle the way that is most comfortable for you.

Practice makes perfect

You want to practice as much as possible to improve your driving skills before you race. In order to qualify for a race, you have to drive the car a minimum of five laps in a row without a crash. Practice can familiarize you with the most difficult sections of the track as well as the general layout. Observe more experienced drivers to see how they maneuver the track. Ask them for suggestions on which RC wheels to use and tips for RC beginners.

Step on the dance floor

When it is time to race, do not concentrate on the other drivers; focus on racing the clock. Remember that cars are timed individually, so it is your own time that is most important. Do not let anxiety about other drivers let you lose sight of your goal - to have the fastest time you possibly can. Do not worry about more experienced drivers, and let them pass you if they are on your tail. As you become more experienced, you can drive more competitively.
