RC Planes: The Next Level

Consider RC planes: The next level for a great hobby for any age. These models combine the skill of building and designing your plane with the excitement of flying your own aircraft for the very first time.

A brief explanation

RC planes are most commonly and incorrectly referred to as "remote control" planes. This is a very easy error to make; the RC actually refers to radio controlled. Radio waves are sent by the handheld transmitter to the small receiver on the plane. These devices work in the exact same way as television or regular radio waves, only instead of receiving picture or music, the receiver is deciphering the signals in order to know which way to turn the plane or how fast it needs to go.

Receiving the signal

The signal from the handheld remote is sent by an antennae. Every time you move a button or switch, the signal is sent out. There are many wavelengths that are sent out, and the transmitter (hand held control) and the receiver (airplane) must both stay on the same frequency in order for the two devices to work.

Moving the aircraft

Once the radio waves are picked up, they are converted into movement by the servos. Any part of the aircraft that needs to move is connected to a servo or connecting rod. Any signal that requires movement is transferred to these rods and thus moves the airplane.

Although RC planes appear high tech, they are just as simple as using a household radio but 10 times the fun!
